The big barnacle pot

Finally, after months of sitting in my studio just waiting for me to commit to a finish, the first in a series of work with a marine fossil theme is done. Complete, finished, no going back and it actually feels good. Rarely do I pull a piece like this out of the kiln and feel good. Usually I have to live with it for a while. And sometimes I just take a hammer to it after a while. But this time it feels right. It's not that there aren't things I'd do differently. It's more that I can see my way forward. For me that's always a nice thing. And tomorrow I'll work again with some larger forms.

LeAnn, you are a star!! The detail is incredible....and ironically all I see is commitment when I click on the photo and see the close up of all the meticulous work in that piece! I love the gradated white to tan to the bottom of the sea blue green.....or is it bottom of the sea to murky to upwards toward the light?!! Interesting..... totally incredible!

A wood post at the harbour, barnacle encrusted, I hear the water lapping at the base of the post and see those sea things glistening in the sunshine...
LeAnn, this piece is absolutely awesome!!! Just extremely beautiful!!!

love it! you are doing such neat things with the barnacle idea - it looks great from a distance, but, like the beads, it looks incredible up close, too!

I love the barnacles. The color and shades on them are gorgeous, such a perfect balance this piece has between lightness and weight...
The barnacles speaks to me in a ceratain way too... as have a fascintion and love for humpback whales. Barnacles often attach to their skin.

Wow! Lovely :) I totally understand that moment of committing to glaze and then getting the shock when it comes out of the kiln and the relationship ends with hammer. How amazing that it was love at first sight for you.
