Sometimes I make pots

It's true. I really do make pots. See right up there in my banner it says 'maker of pots....' The truth is, I make pots quite often. You just don't see them very often. This little selection just came out of the kiln yesterday. Most of this kiln load will be headed off to the monthly art market. Some of them are destined for a trunk show where my seconds go. And some, sigh, will go straight to the bin. You probably recognize the Victorian lock pattern. It will be making it's debut in August on a series of square trays.

The thing I'm most excited about here is the pattern on the top of the vase. It's from a old wood batik stamp, either Indonesian or Indian. Like the Victorian lock, I've had this stamp for a long time. In fact it used to be 'decor.' But as with many things in our house, it's been pressed into service in the studio. Need a butter knife? Check the studio. I have a wondefully tolerant family.

What I'm not so excited about are most of the glazes I used. But there is a small kiln of tests going right now. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see the results for a week. We're off to Portland tomorrow to visit my long time friend, Susan, who I haven't seen in 10 years. I'm excited! And I know I'll be just a little sad to leave her behind in Portland. But that kiln load will be waiting for me as a bit of a surprise (hopefully not too much of a surprise).

Have a fantastic week!

They all look great! I used to be a maker of pots too... it's been a while since I made anything bigger than my hand, but I do miss it.

How gorgeous!

I too, use lots of common household items during projects that I know I shouldn't (knives, spatulas, etc...) Hee. Hee.

Why have you been hiding these beautiful pots??? Wow. I love the colors and patterns. I have a feeling if you listed some on Etsy they would be a hit! Those pretty little ones would sure make great bead trays...and make my work table look great instead of a mess! Have a great time with your friend in Portland. Can't wait to see your new pieces when you return.

Love the batik pattern! I have a batik woodblock that I haven't used either and now I'm wondering what is holding me back :)

Honestly, I had a love hate relationship with glaze, so my hats off to you and your ability to enjoy the process!

I have been looking for Batik stamps for years, they are very hard to find. I love the platters, so nice to see you use that gorgeous victorian lock on something else, I love the results.
Have fun in Portland, when you get back let me know and we will take care of that order of mine.

Thanks so much

Marie

Well, even though everyone has said it before me - these pieces are just beautiful, LeAnn. Is that your espresso glaze on the top with the Victorian lock pattern?
Have a safe trip and a wonderful time! I will miss you!

Those are beautiful! What do you mean by make it to the bin?
By all means you should put some on Etsy.

My goodness, I never expected such a reaction to these little pots. Thank you all so much. I stopped putting pottery on Etsy because the shipping costs were just so so high. But maybe some of these smaller things?

Heck, shipping costs are cheaper than flying out to Lubbock to pick them up in person :o) If it's good quality stuff that I like, I can usually stomach higher shipping costs...

Just love these, Leann. I know about surprises! I left for an NCECA conference and asked my poor unsuspecting husband to fire the kiln. Nearly everything blew up ... and he has an advanced degree! Sometimes even with the best of intentions it IS better to do it yourself. Just think, you'll have a reason to come home ... as if you need one!

Can I be the bin? I promise to take good care of anything that goes into the bin, LOL!

I LOVE the little tray you sent me with the buttercreme glaze and the queen anne's lace design. Definitely need to make these available! My plate needs a mug...
