Three down, three to go

A couple more barnacle pots all fired and ready to go to a local exhibition in November. This makes 3 finished of the ridiculous goal that I've set for myself. Expectations are meant to be revised as the deadline nears, right?

And here's 3 more, glazed and ready to fire tomorrow night. They are resting nicely in the kiln right now. Those pinkish rims will be white by Wednesday morning and the gray green centers will be blue just like the pots above. Actually the larger platter is an unknown as it's layered with an untested combination. Sometimes it gets confusing when I glaze because what I see on the piece going in often has no resemblence at all to what comes out. But it is always a surprise when I open a kiln, hopefully a good one, sometimes not, but always a departure point for a new idea. This is what keeps me drawn to working in clay. There's something new each time I see the fired results. Usually exciting, occasionally disappointing, but never boring.

And before I go for the evening, there is still time to leave a comment to have a chance at this bronze pendant. I'll be using ye olde random generator tomorrow evening to find out just who this piece will be winging it's way to. So if you haven't done so already, head on over to this post.
Night All,
LeAnn

Ooooh, LeAnn. I LOVE the blue inside the tall pot in the top picture. That is absolutely GORGEOUS!

I know that excitement about opening a kiln and being surprised, although my glass doesn't change colors as drastically as your glazes. How fun!

Hi LeAnn,

You are making progress girl!! Just keep heading forward you'll get there :) Both pots are just beautiful!!! The blue is amazing!! And I have had a real love affair with blue and brown together for ages!!! Do you mean we have to wait until Weds-Thurs before we can see your magic on the new pots?? :( They will just be incredible I know it!!

these are so beautiful... that basket effect on the tall pot is so great... how could anyone who sets their eyes on these not appreciate the quality, talent, vision behind them? that blue is so perfect for your barnacles... and, yes, modifications are always in order - especially when one sets such a high bar!

Love your pendants:) You've inspired me to try my hand at these pretties. I just got my first batch of bisque painted and glazed and ready to be fired. I'm new at this stuff. What do you use for your pieces? My friend gave me some powdered colours to mix and paint on then I added the glaze which looks like mudd...is this right? She said i needed to keep the glaze to the top of the pendants and keep it way from the sides for firing purposes. Will they turn out o.k.?

LeAnn - where would we be without deadlines ... I know where I'd be, behind in production all the time! LOL - so don't stress and just go with what can be done in the time you have. I'm enjoying watching the beauties come out of the kiln.

And my fingers are crossed with the bronze piece, whoever the Random Generator picks is Lucky Star for sure!

Joella, if it's a clear glaze over the top of underglazes, the clear glaze always looks grayish until it's fired. Then it melts into a transparent coating a like glass.

I think it's kind of neat that even the artist can be surprised by what comes out of the kiln. Those pots are incredible and I can't wait to see more of the finished ones!

Kelly, I hope that there aren't too many surprises. But I'll share even the really bad ones.

Lynn, if it weren't for deadlines I'm afraid I'd be lounging on the sofa eating bon bons and reading mysteries.
