You can teach an old dog new tricks

I made that! It's not perfect. It should be filled with resin but I don't see myself doing that anytime soon.

So why did I make it? I've been taking Stephanie Lee's Homesteader Metal Smithing class online. This old dog has learned some new things. It's been a fabulous experience to expand my horizons and challenge myself in new ways. Just what I've been needing to get my inspiration charged up again as we head into winter.

This really has been challenging for me. It's a whole different kind of metal smithing than I've ever done before. My dad, the renaissance man, did silver smithing and taught me lots of things many years ago. He was an exacting task master and this definitely would not have been his cup of tea. But for me, it's just opened up some new paths and I love that. I have all sorts of ideas.

This is what my young dog Alice brought in today. They are pecans. She brings them in hidden way down inside her mouth so that you can't tell that she's got them.  We have a huge crop of pecans this year. It fairly rains down pecans when the wind blows, which is pretty much all of the time. Now if I could only teach this young dog to drop them into a bucket. I would have enough pecans to last me all winter and some for you too.

that bezel is awesome! I wanted to take the course but this time of year is so busy with the salon, jewelry and my daughter. I hope and pray she has another class.
My dogs eat rocks def. not as cool as pecans!

The bezel is just perfect! I love it! I so wanted to take that class and will try to another time. Maybe you could make a porcelain piece to fit just right, that would so cool!
Smart doggie!

I love the new adventure you have started out on - kudos to you. Learning new skills, expanding the horizon - sounds good to me.
Pecans - yum! They don't grow here and are not even commonly known, which means they are exotic and expensive to buy. Lucky you to have a tree full of them!

Well that is the prettiest bezel I have ever seen! I would have loved to take Stephanie's class, but I know I wouldn't be able to take the time to do it justice. (Plus there is that whole fire thing). I love that your dog brings you pecans! Can you make a pecan pie with those? I made an orange pecan pie last year that was pretty tasty. Happy Thanksgiving to you, dear LeAnn. Wishing you the best.
Enjoy the day!

Wow that is so cool that your Dad did silversmithing! Your bezel is beautiful and I agree that maybe you should bezel set a piece of your pottery in there. Pecans are abundant here on the shore too, tis the season! Enjoy your Thanksgiving LeAnn!

How sweet of Alice to collect the pecans for you. I'm imagining how fun that must feel to pet her and be surprised at lumpy jowls :)

Your bezel is awesome - I love it. I am taking the class also but haven't gotten that much practice time in - a couple of unexpected major house repairs came up. It is really a great learning experience. I have played a little-enough to make me want a couple of days to play!

LeAnn, your bezel is fabulous! Would you believe I'm taking the class the class for the 2nd time around but never tried the square bezels yet. In fact, I haven't had time to participate at all yet so I'm so glad the info. will be up for a long time! Alice is a dog after my own heart. I LOVE pecans and remember picking them up off the ground to eat when I lived in New Orleans as a child.
