Sea Things and Give Away

Ah…. the barnacles on the pots have made it to pendants. This is the first of a series of pendants and charms that I’m working on. This piece is the first glaze test and I’ve got to say I’m pretty chuffed. Now that emerald green glaze is my current favourite. I can’t seem to stop using it.

These are fun but a wee bit tedious to make. They start out with a circle of clay that I form into a shallow dome. I let them stiffen up a bit, then apply tiny little rounds of clay that get stamped and punched. Dried, sanded, fired (twice) and voila, they are done. What I really like about making these is that no two are exactly alike and a rhythm of making starts to happen.

So here’s the deal. I don’t know what to call these. I keep thinking barnacle. But seriously, who wants barnacles hanging around their neck. And I’m stuck on that green glaze. I like it. I am obsessed. But I know there are other colours out there in the world.

Let me know what you think they should be called and suggest some colours and I’m going to randomly select one of you to get an assortment of these out of Saturdays’s firing. I’ll post the results on Friday, so you’ve got until Thursday nite to post a comment.

BTW, I’ve discussed it with the dogs, and neither is keen to do a performance role in the announcement. So we will see…..

How about Neptune's Treasure? I sort of like barnacle, but that makes me think of something crusty :( I reeeeaally like the green glaze. I think any green or blue shades or mixes would be nice. I also like white, but don't know if there's a pale glaze you could use. Anyway, keep talking to the dogs. They need to earn their keep!

I like Tidal, or Marine Life. I'm VERY partial to that lovely green color but i could also see it in some very soft natural beige shades and tans, very organic!

Hi Leann! I just bought this pendant. It is beautiful! How about "Atlantis" for a name?

Hey LeAnn.
How about Emerald Treasure, or Emerald Fortune?
I'd say browns with green peeking through. Or white with a clear glaze, with a deep coral color? The possibilities are endless.

A beautiful pendant for sure.
How about Tidal Pool?
That's what it looks like to me ;^)

I love the green and brown! I think teal or turquoise and brown would look good too. Any ocean/tropical colors would look good. How about Tidal Gems, Tide Pool Treasures, Ocean Blooms, Tidal Blossoms...that's all I can think of right now.

Your last comment about the dogs is TOO funny! Did you discuss with them the treats that would be involved? Wild Alaskan salmon treats had Cooper's FULL attention!

LeAnn, I really like the way you have it made up. Maybe a blue green would look nice. How about Deep creatures. Debbie / Prairie Emporium

Yay, I can comment!!! (big grin)
Hi LeAnn!
What an absolutely lovely pendant! The green is wonderful, but I think any organic colour would work also, or a coral red. And I like Christi's suggestion: Atlantis.

How about "Marine Magic", I think the green colour is gorgeous, but any blues would look good or coral colour.

Deep Sea Treasures - and I love the green, too, any "sea" colors would be good, but I also like the ideas of some browns, because in real life, if they weren't in the sea in their natural state, they'd turn brown or tan or bleached white, even (I'm thinking about the sand dollars!).

I love anything that has to do with the ocean - how about Ocean's Gift?

If you dress it up right, you can still use barnacle :o) Barnacle Beauties? (hahaha)...But, seariously, I like the Tidal ideas...Tidal Beauties...Tidal Treasures (I really dig alliteration...)...

I like the idea of different shades of greens and blues...Not just because they are my favorite colors, but because they are more oceanic...Purples would be cool, too - but cool oceanic colors...

How about something like "Mermaid's Treasure", or "Mermade" or "Deep Sea Designs" or "Ocean's ornaments". I dunno, just some ideas. They're beautiful by the way and I think that they would look gorgeous in any color.

I'm sorry, all I can come up with are juvenile, Sponge Bob Square Pants inspired names...I don't know where they're coming from- I don't think I've ever seen more than 5 seconds of the show (totally accidentally just FYI). Barnacle Betty is probably not what you're looking for?

I love all of the oceanic names already suggested and I think the pendants will look awesome in your entire glaze palette (but I'm way too addicted to blue and green to suggest anything else)!

Hmmm, not so helpful tonight apparently...

Leanne, I absolutely love this pendant! I like the green with that earthy brown color. How about "Under the Sea" Series or "Oceanic Wonders" I think you have all the suggestions you need to last you the rest of the year! I thought they were all great! I like the blue and green colors. You could do a lavender color, some sea urchins are that color.

They remind me of things you might find when the tide recedes, in a tide pool - or in the recesses of a stream. So I'm suggesting tidepool as part of the name for them. And as that imagery, you could use coral colors, light salmon tints and ivory shades, maybe with greenish tones down in the recesses of the designs. They also look a bit like hillside terrains in the moors or desert landscapes, so a sandy color theme would bring that idea forward.
