I am not invincible

I haven't been feeling all that well over the last couple of months. Nothing serious, just the occasional bout of dizziness and fatigue. It was easy to put this off to the holidays and all the busy that goes along with it. Nothing that you would think necessary to schedule a doctor visit. Then I had a birthday and it occured to me that I haven't actually been to the doctor in more than 3 years. Healthy as a horse. So off I went for one of those wellness checkups.

Cholesterol - pretty good
Blood pressure -excellent
Lung function - fine for an asthmatic
Liver function - excellent

Fasting blood glucose - not so great

I thought I was invincible when it came to the game of genetics roulette. The good news is that I have some answers to why I've been feeling a little off. The bad news is that I can't really change a lot in my diet (the usual first approach). More than 6 months ago I gave up sugar along with a lot of other unhealthy eating habits. Well except for the chocolates at Christmas. They were Lindt after all. A girl can only resist temptation for so long. And Lindt chocolate is an extreme temptation.

The good news. I've already conquered the diet issues, well except for the Lindt lapse. The point of all this? This blog is probably going to continue to have infrequent updates over the next few weeks as I sort through this medical issue and another that I don't even want to think about at all.

I'm still working. Just working quite slowly. I have some pretties that came out of the kiln a while ago. They'll probably land in the shop on Monday.

Meanwhile, I have always appreciated the support, kindness and friendship I've found out here in the land of blog. I thank you all for that. I just wanted you all to know that I'm actually still here, just in a much quieter, contemplative, and inconsistent version of me. I'm pretty sure that the other me will be back soon.

What Courtney said!

As much as we love your pretties, we love you more! Heck, without you, your pretties wouldn't be here...

And, your health comes first - you know I've had a hard time learning that lesson, so I understand how it feels like...It's not even that you realize that you're not invincible, you just realize that you're more human than you thought you were :o)

*hugs* and take care of you!

Oh my sweetie! What Courtney said! What Katie said! We wouldn't want to lose you. Put the clay down and know that it is okay. Of course, unless using that creative outlet helps you be more completely in the contemplative state. You are the only you we've got! Take good care and know that I am praying for you and sending you sunshine to store up on your darkest days.
And find your 'something good' through all this.

Enjoy the day.
Erin

P.S. I haven't been to the doctor in quite awhile as well. You have inspired me.

I hope you have a great doctor, and you find a regimen that works to manage your medical issue! It sounds like you have already done the hard part. (Lindt is an excellent choice--it's one of mine too!) And congrats on your liver and BP! I'm sure you will figure this out and be back to yourself soon.

Well, I sure know what it is like to have a high blood sugar. I remember that fatigued feeling before I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes while I was pregnant with Nora. Oh, boy was I perturbed about that in the beginning! Not only was I not going to get to eat whatever I wanted, like every pregnant lady is entitled to, but I was under the impression that I was healthy enough to avoid something like that from happening. Never mind the fact that my father is a type 1 diabetic, this is ME we are talking about...or so I thought! Being diagnosed with gestational diabetes turned out to be a blessing and the best thing for my pregnancy. I was one healthy mama, let me tell you! I was arguably in the best shape of my life while I was pregnant. And it really wasn't so bad...except for giving up all the carbs! It was an eye-opener. I realized I was living my life on carbohydrates. That was the hardest part and the most important change in my diet. Later, when I became more accustom to the lifestyle change, I learned I could balance out the diet with exercise. I could have a little somethin', somethin' here and there as long as I took a long walk after. Unfortunately, since Nora was born, I've fallen back into all my old bad habits of eating sugar and carbs and not enough exercise. Not being held accountable for all my eating choices and exercise level like I was before, has made it all too easy. I've said to myself many, many times, "You need to go back to doing what you were doing while you were pregnant!" You've inspired me to go back to my healthier ways again with this post, so thank you for that little reminder and that little nudge. Take care of yourself, my friend. I'll be thinking of you.

Wishing you the very best and hoping your medical issues can be resolved soon. But talk about coincidence - I have been having a bad bout of dizziness this morning...

i too thought i was healthy as a horse, and am...except for the blood glucose. and even after i've scaled way back on bread, potatoes, rice, sugar, you-name-the-simple-carb - i still have high blood sugar.

i go back to the doc in a week to figure out what's next - think it's medication which is a bummer.

thinking of you -

So sorry to hear you are feeling yucky; I am on Metformin for my diabetes and I have been fairly well controlled for 4 years.
I eat less than perfectly and still maintain.

I hit a place where all and many health issues had to dealt with like a bucket list.
It was vexing but needed attention. Once having done all the steps, it felt good to have taken the break.

Best of luck with whatever challenges you face and do blog to help us in sending healing and strength.Joan Tucker

You know I totally understand about medical issues and how they can sap you of everything. Please take care and do only what you WANT to do.

Hang in there - you'll get things figured out (wow - three years goes by in a blink with all that has been going on in your world). I've been doing a cleansing and meal replacement diet since December because I was getting quite out of control (chocolate is totally my downfall - and cookies...). I'm hoping to beat that diabetic horse and keep my cholesterol where it needs to be. Amazing how much our bodies take from us sometimes. Glad you got checked out and are working on things! {{{Hugs}}}

LeAnn, it's so good to hear an update from you. None of us are invincible, but we always want to believe we are! Medical issues. Yuck. But when you have to deal with them, you have to deal with them.

Your health comes first, always. Your creative productivity will come back when you feel better. You've been such a great support to everyone with your blog, now just rest up when you can, and feel all the good thoughts and energy we're sending your way.
xoxo
